"So I do sleight of hand. However my assistant does sleight of mind. He is a mentalist. Let me introduce him to you. His name is Günter and he is a plush mouse."
"Also was mich betrifft, ich mache Fingerfertigkeit. Mein Assistent jedoch beherrscht Geistesfertigkeit. Er ist Mentalist. Ich darf ihn vorstellen, sein Name ist Günter und er ist eine Plüschmaus.
The performer brings out a plush mouse and holds it up.
"You can see the problem! Günter cannot talk as his mouth has been sewed up. So he basically has to rely on mental projections to get his point across. But that is for later. First we play a little game. It is called, 'what do I have in my hand'. I give you a subtle hint: It's a spoon!"
"Und schon kann man das Problem sehen. Günter kann nicht reden, weil sein Mund vernäht ist. Um zu kommunizieren muss er quasi mentale Projektionen anwenden. Aber das kommt erst später. Zuerst spielen wir ein kleines Spiel. Es heißt 'Was habe ich in meiner Hand'. Kleiner Tipp: Es ist ein Löffel!"
The performer sets the mouse on the table, reaches into his pocket and removes a spoon.
"If you get it right, everything is fine. However, if you get it wrong, the mouse will die!"
"Wenn du richtig liegst, dann ist alles gut. Wenn du jedoch falsch liegst, dann wird die Maus sterben."
With the other hand the performer reaches for a gun and points it at the head of the mouse.
"And I already see some of you emotionally connecting with a plush mouse. And some other will say, oh that is just a toy gun. Well the mouse doesn't know. Besides, toy mouse, toy gun. Think about it. Toy Death!
So what is your answer. What do I hold in my hand?"
"Und da sehe ich schon die ersten emotionalen Bünde, die mit der Plüschmaus geschlossen werden. Einige sagen sich sicher, oh das ist doch nur eine Spielzeugpistole. Naja, das weiß die Maus nicht. Außerdem, Spielzeugmaus, Spielzeugpistole. Denkt drüber nach. Spielzeugtod!
Also wie ist deine Anwort. Was halte ich in meiner Hand?"
"A spoon, are you sure, or do you want to change your mind?"
"Einen Löffel, sicher, oder willst du deine Meinung noch mal ändern?"
Whatever the spectators answer, it is revealed that the performer is really holding a fork. And depending on the answer the mouse is either shot or not.
If not shot: "You see it works, the mouse mentally projected the right answer in your head. That means the mouse will live... for now!"
"Siehst du, es klappt. Die Maus hat die richtige Antwort mental in deinen Kopf projiziert. Das heißt, die Maus darf leben... Erst mal!"
If shot: "Come on, it's just a plush mouse. It's not real! Calm down everyone. Otherwise we have to call the plush police."
"Beruhigt euch, es ist nur eine Plüschmaus. Die ist nicht echt! Kommt runter. Ansonsten rufen wir die Plüschpolizei."
The mouse is placed aside with gun and fork,
"So that was Günter, I hope you rememeber him, as he will have his great act later tonight."
"Also, das war Günter, Ich hoffe ihr behaltet ihn im Hinterkopf, denn nachher hat er seine große Nummer."
